AI-Curated Interview
An AI-Curated Interview (ACI) is a one-on-one conversation between an AI agent and your participant, conducted live over the browser. The agent works the discussion guide, asks adaptive follow-up questions, and produces a recording plus a transcript at the end.
Use it when you want interview-style depth at a scale a human interviewer can't reach.
What participants see
A participant gets an invitation email. When they click the link they:
- Land on a welcome page describing the study.
- (Optional) Take the screener. Failing the screener exits politely.
- Sign a short consent form.
- Test their microphone.
- Speak with the AI agent in the browser. The agent listens, asks follow-up questions, and probes when answers stay surface-level.
- See a thank-you page once the conversation ends. Any incentive queues for payout.
Calls run on browser-based WebRTC straight to the OpenAI Realtime model. No phone numbers, no software install.
Launching one
Click Interviews → New → AI-Curated Interview in the app. The wizard walks through these steps:
1. Describe
A short paragraph about the research goal. The AI uses it to draft a script and to behave appropriately during the call. Be specific about: who the participant is, what you want to learn, what's off-limits.
2. Select or filter
Choose your audience.
- Filter the pool. Pick demographics and qualifications to recruit from the User Evaluation participant pool. See Audience & recruiting.
- Invite your own. Paste a list of emails or upload a CSV.
3. Screen
Optional. Add up to about ten screening questions. Only participants who answer correctly enter the call. See Screeners.
4. Script
The interview guide. You can:
- Let the AI generate one from your brief, then edit.
- Write your own questions from scratch.
- Mix prepared questions with "follow your nose" sections where the agent probes freely.
The agent isn't a script-reader; it has the full guide in context and decides when to dig deeper, ask for examples, or move on.
5. Additional details
Number of participants, session duration, and the recruitment deadline. Optionally require a document for signature (UE's standard NDA or your own upload) and set the messaging participants see before and after the call. There's no incentive field here; the participant reward is fixed.
6. Review and launch
Confirm and publish. Invitations go out immediately.
What you get back
Each completed interview becomes a file in the study's project, with:
- The full audio recording.
- A speaker-labeled transcript.
- Auto-generated insights and a summary.
- The same chat, tags, clips, reports, and decks that work on any project file.
Open the study under Interviews → [your study] for live progress. Completions transcribe within minutes of finishing.
Tips
- Brief the AI like you'd brief a junior interviewer. State the goal, the participant, sensitive topics, and what a strong answer looks like.
- Keep the script focused. Eight to twelve aimed questions yield better data than thirty generic ones.
- Use the screener. Inviting unqualified people wastes your budget and their time.
- Watch the first few completions. If the agent probes in unhelpful directions, edit the script and re-launch.
