Live Interview
A Live Interview is a scheduled call you host yourself. User Evaluation handles recruitment, scheduling, calendar invites, the video room, recording, and transcription. You show up and run the conversation.
Use it when you want to talk to your customers directly, with full vocal and visual fidelity, but you don't want to spend hours on logistics.
What participants see
Participants click their invite link, optionally pass the screener, and pick a time slot from your availability. They get a calendar invite with the join link. At the scheduled time they click the link and join a browser-based video call (Daily.co) with you.
Hosting
You see booking notifications as participants schedule. At call time, join from the Live Interview dashboard. Recording defaults to on and transcription runs after the call; the result lands in the study's project.
Launching one
Click Interviews & Surveys → New → Live Interview. The wizard:
1. Describe
Your research goal, the interview name, the time per interview, and a target count. A Recording toggle (default on, switchable in-call) lives here too. The description shows on the page participants see before scheduling.
2. Audience
Pool filter or your own list. See Audience & recruiting.
3. Screen
Optional. Add screening questions so only qualified participants reach the scheduler. See Screeners.
4. Script
Write your interview script — the questions and flow you'll work through on the call.
5. Availability
Set your time zone, slot length (a free numeric input, 5 to 120 minutes), buffer between calls, an available-from/until range, and recurring or one-off windows. Participants only book within your stated availability.
6. Review and launch
Confirm the study summary: name, type, description, time per interview, target count, the Recording toggle, locations, demographics, screener, script, and availability. Click a pencil to jump back and edit anything, then launch.
During the call
The Live Interview room offers:
- Browser-based video and audio (Daily.co).
- Recording controls — recording defaults to on, and you can start or stop it from the call.
After the call ends, you'll have:
- A full recording and transcript in the study's project.
- Auto-generated insights and a summary.
When to pick this
Use Live Interview when:
- The conversation needs human judgment (sensitive topics, complex products, building rapport).
- You want to show a prototype, a screen, or read body language.
- You can budget human time for 10-20 calls.
Use AI-Curated Interview when:
- You want 50+ interviews and can't run them all yourself.
- The conversation is structured enough that an AI can run it well.
- Speed matters more than nuance.
Both count equally against your Engage budget.
