Audience & Recruiting
Every study in Engage needs participants. You have two ways to source them.
1. Recruit from the User Evaluation pool
User Evaluation runs a global participant pool spanning 200+ countries. Filter the pool by:
Demographics
- Country (one or many)
- Gender
- Age range (set min and max)
Qualifications
Layer on any of these profile filters:
- Employment status. Full-time, part-time, self-employed, freelance/contract, unemployed, student, retired, homemaker.
- Education level. High school/GED, some college, associate, bachelor's, master's, doctorate, professional degree.
- Marital status. Single, in a relationship, married, divorced/separated, widowed.
- Household income. Brackets from under $25k up to $250k+.
Stack as many filters as you need. The pool narrows as you add them.
How matching works
Once you publish, the test matcher (a background process) finds qualifying participants and sends invitations. The matcher handles all four study types using the same demographic and qualification filters.
If you set a participant cap ("max 30 participants"), the matcher stops once that's hit, even if more pool members qualify.
2. Bring your own participants
If you have a contact list (customers, beta users, newsletter subscribers), invite them directly:
- Enter emails. Add addresses one by one (comma- or Enter/Tab-separated). Previously invited participants can be picked from a saved list.
- Share a public link. Share the same invite URL anywhere (newsletter, X, LinkedIn). Anyone clicking it goes through your screener.
Bring-your-own participants don't cost you pool-recruitment fees, but they still count against your Engage seat budget per completed session.
Picking pool vs. BYO
| Use the pool when… | Bring your own when… |
|---|---|
| You need fresh users; your own would bias results | You want to talk to your customers |
| You want fast turnaround | You want to deepen existing relationships |
| You don't have a contact list | You have a list and want zero recruiting cost |
| Demographic targeting matters | You want to pick exactly who to invite |
You can do both. Pool-recruit a subset and invite your own list in parallel inside the same study.
Incentives
The participant reward is a fixed amount; there's no incentive field in the wizard.
- Pool participants get paid out automatically by User Evaluation. The cost shows up in your Engage billing.
For pre-screening once a participant clicks the invite, see Screeners. To manage past participants, open the Past Participants page in the app.
